The commonness of yeast infections makes it important for every woman to understand the symptoms. There is no shame in contracting a yeast infection as nearly half of all women will suffer from it at least once in their lives. This is not a comforting thought for those who have never had it, but for those who have had it or are currently dealing with it, it is certainly nice to know you are not alone. Yeast infections symptoms are fairly consistent from person to person, even among men who sometimes contract the condition as well.

A gynecologist can give you an accurate diagnosis, but there are signs you can look for to know if you have a yeast infection before you decide to make the visit. The most common sign that hits a victim of the condition first is a chronic itching of the pubic region that cannot be gotten rid of. The next is a painful burning feeling during urination. Another is a noticeable vaginal discharge that can appear green, yellowish or white and is either a creamy liquid or more of a cheesy appearance. It is also somewhat odorous, like that of food made from yeast. These signs alone are obvious enough reasons to visit your gynecologist and get a verified opinion and advice for treatment.

In more developed or severe cases you may also suffer from puffy inflammation and red or white spots that bleed easily. As these heal and reopen, scabs form that makes the area feel even worse. All together, yeast infections are not pleasant conditions, and they can occur in places other than your pubic region. The mouth is another likely place to become infected, and people of all ages and both genders can be prone to developing this, especially those who wear dentures, have diabetes, are going through chemotherapy treatments, have underperforming immune systems or are taking antibiotics.

The symptoms for yeast infections in the mouth, also known as thrush, can be difficult to place at first. The first thing you will undoubtedly notice is a white, creamy coating on the inside of the mouth. Spots in the mouth may develop that can have a yellow or cream-colored tinge to them. The spots may not cause pain to begin with until you try to remove them by picking at them or attempting to peel them off. This will cause bleeding and pain. The sores can develop in the mouth and move down the throat in severe cases. If you seek help at the beginning signs and treat the condition before it becomes severe, you will save yourself a lot of unneeded pain.

Fortunately, there are many kinds of treatments for all forms of yeast infections. It is important that whatever you choose for your treatment method that you consult with your doctor about treating the source of the problem and not just the symptoms. This will help prevent a return and keep your body at healthy bacteria and fungus levels for many years to come.
